In a strategic move to bolster Ghana’s adventure tourism industry, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has met with the seven paragliding pilots at the GTA’s head office in Accra. The meeting, held in preparation for the 2025 Paragliding Festival, set for April 18–21 at the Odweanoma Paragliding Site in Kwahu, signals the GTA’s commitment to enhancing the event’s impact while laying the groundwork for long-term growth in the sector.

The Paragliding Festival, a flagship event in Ghana’s tourism portfolio, has become a cornerstone of the country’s efforts to diversify its tourism offerings beyond cultural and historical attractions. By leveraging the natural beauty of the Kwahu, the festival attracts both domestic and international visitors, contributing significantly to the local economy and showcasing Ghana’s potential as a premier adventure tourism destination..

During the engagement, Mrs. Houadjeto commended the pilots for their pivotal role in ensuring the festival’s success since its inception. Their expertise in delivering safe and thrilling paragliding experiences has earned the event a reputation for excellence, drawing adventure seekers from across the globe. “Your professionalism and dedication have been the backbone of this festival, and we are immensely grateful for your partnership,” she stated.
However, the CEO’s remarks extended beyond gratitude, focusing on a strategic roadmap to elevate the festival and the broader adventure tourism ecosystem. A central pillar of this vision is the training of local paragliding pilots. Recognizing the need to build a sustainable talent pipeline, Mrs. Houadjeto advocated for structured training programs to equip Ghanaian youth with the skills required to excel in this niche field. Such initiatives align with national development goals, including job creation and economic empowerment, while reducing dependency on foreign expertise.

The Pilots highlighted the need to build local base of Ghanaian Pilots to help attract and grow the sport as it will help provide local knowledge and expertise for potential international Pilots.
The CEO also proposed diversifying the festival’s offerings to enhance its appeal. By integrating additional attractions—such as adventure sports clinics, eco-tourism activities, and cultural performances—the GTA aims to create a more immersive experience for attendees. These enhancements are expected to increase visitor dwell time, boost local business revenues, and position the festival as a multifaceted tourism product.
The GTA’s proactive approach to the 2025 Paragliding Festival underscores its role as a catalyst for economic growth and innovation in Ghana’s tourism sector. By investing in human capital, diversifying attractions, and exploring new geographic opportunities, the authority is positioning Ghana to compete on the global stage of adventure tourism. The festival, with its blend of adrenaline-pumping activities and cultural immersion, serves as a powerful platform to showcase Ghana’s unique value proposition.
As preparations for the 2025 event gain momentum, stakeholders in the tourism and development sectors will be watching closely. For businesses, policymakers, and investors, the festival represents an opportunity to engage with a dynamic and growing market.
