The Ohum festival is one of the most famous and important cultural festivals in the country and is celebrated annually by the people of the Okyeman Kingdom to thank God for his blessings and to cleanse the stools of Akyem.Â
It is also celebrated in remembrance of the ancestors of the Akyem land for their struggle and perseverance to keep the kingdom. The festival also marks the first harvest of yams and is to ask for increased harvests for the coming year.Â
