The Mankessim Borbor Mfantse Amansi festival, formerly known as Mankessim Akwambo, celebrated in the second week of September is use to among many things, showcase the rich Fante culture and traditions.

The festival, is preceded with Week long activities such as football gala between groups, associations and unions; candle light procession, dawn clarion known as afahye spirit drumming, Marathon race, beating of adawurana, half night for widows and widowers, bathing of widows and widowers in their popular Okyi ‘deity’ river, borbor mfantse Fidapon literary means, Fantes precious Friday, performance by various asafo groups, akwantu kɛse (demonstration of how the three fante wariors, Obrumankoma, Oson and Odapagyan came to settle on the Fante land from Techiman) health screening, quiz competition, trade fair, street carnival, etc, before the durbar of chiefs, elders and people on the Saturday.
According to the Omanhen (Paramount Chief) of the traditional area, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, said this year’s edition would be exceptional as it coincides with his 25 years of enstoolment as the paramount chief for the area.
The Afahye festival is usually concluded with a non-denominational church service at Saltpond.
Activities during the weeklong celebration included a photo exhibition, clean-up exercises, film shows, a marathon race, a gala football, boat regatta and a durbar of the chiefs and people of the traditional areas.
